Crescent City Cookie Company (tm)
The Story Behind the Crescent City Cookie Company (tm)
“It was the very first thing my mother let me make alone in the kitchen,” says founder and head cookie creator, Rhonda Findley. “It was the whole process of mixing and measuring, scooping and baking. And the total transformation into a chocolate chip cookie. As a kid it was mind blowing. You are eight or nine and thinking that’s real magic. All those ingredients give you a cookie. And, I’ve been fascinated by food and cooking ever since.”
Findley is a firm believer in food as a source of memories and those food memories as indelible factors that can transform you to a happy place. So, starting The Crescent Cookie Company on the heels of a perfect chocolate chip cookie seemed to be a natural choice. “A Chocolate Chip Cookie will definitely put you in a happy place. Our goal is add our cookie experience to the already wonderful experience folks are having in New Orleans. And since food is part of the culture it just seems to be a no brainer – we are trying to be smart cookies here!,” Findley says with a laugh.
Our Creole Chocolate Chip Cookie ™ is baked in small batches in Findley’s 9th Ward Kitchen and features house made brown sugar using Louisiana’s own Steen’s Molasses. “Cane syrup is just so Louisiana. The vast sugar cane fields are a hallmark of South Louisiana. You find chef’s here use it in many recipes. One in particular, a Steen’s glazed roasted duck. It’s just one of those ingredients that screams Louisiana and New Orleans cooking. The earthy sweetness and think dark structure lends to a very rich and deep and moist chocolate chip cookie that is tender and crisp. I use American made chocolate to emphasize the fact then the first New Orleanians had to create and improvise ingredients and search for things available locally – so I strive to have a thoughtful approach to the entire cookie. And, a little know fact, Pop City and Funrock'n very own David Gordin was the production manager for David's Cookie Company when he lived in New York! He's a cookie genius. So I was able to harness his expertise to create something sustainable for Pop City through our partnership of good taste!"
The Crescent Cookie Company’s Creole Chocolate Chip Cookie ™ is available exclusively on line and very soon at Pop City at The French Market. The Creole Chocolate Chip Cookie (tm) is the perfect taste of New Orleans Confectionary prowess. It will take your tastebuds “over the moon" that is over the Crescent City moon!
